Being Comfortable

There are lots of ways of being miserable, but there’s only one way of
being comfortable, and that is to stop running round after happiness.
If you make up your mind not to be happy there’s no reason why you
shouldn’t have a fairly good time.

Truth

Every truth passes through three stages before it is recognized.
In the first, it is ridiculed.
In the second, it is opposed.
In the third, it is regarded as self-evident.

Crisis in the Mortgage Industry

Many things are contributing the the current mortgage crisis.

However, one of the major reasons things are in such turmoil stems from the mortgage industry and the government  itself.

One of the contributing factors was the fact the government wanted to enable lower income families to be able to buy their first home. The income requirements were lowered below the level they should have been.

The rule of thumb had always been that the amount of the monthly payment should not be more than one week’s gross income. That added to the fact that twenty percent of the value of the property had to be put down ensured that the borrower had sufficient income to pay off the loan.

Hence the rules were changed, there were loans that could be had with no income verification, one hundred percent loans were given, all a borrower had to do was fog a mirror to qualify for a loan.

One of the unintended consequences was that , besides making homes available to people who really couldn’t afford them, it increased the demand for property, whenever demand goes up, so does the price, this rapid increase in property values led to many people buying property on the speculation that it would rise in value in a short period of time, thus allowing the purchaser to “flip” the house, thus making a profit in a short period of time. As this practice continued,it began to feed upon itself until the values kept rising and rising.

Sooner or later the bubble had to burst, people were over extended, either because of speculation, or because they had purchased more house than they could afford. A sudden downturn in the economy, people started getting laid off, they began falling behind on payments, gas prices kept rising and soon there were a whole lot of houses that were overvalued, and no one to buy them.

The speculators were stuck with their houses, people quit buying, and the time came when you couldn’t sell a harpoon to an Eskimo.

Now we have the government bailing out the very people that they encouraged to make the bad loans in the first place, and who pays for all of this government interference in a free market? Three guess, the first two don’t count.

And the people the government were trying to help are now losing their homes, and ruining their credit in the process.

What is the lesson learned here?

Jesse Jackson ,Hypocrite

“Nevada Bob’s Golf”

A lot has been made of Jesse Jackson’s comment last week in which he used the “N” word when he thought his mike was turned off.

At last, the real Jesse Jackson has surfaced. He has made a living by extorting money from giant corporations, he would contact these companies and if they didn’t contribute to his foundation, he would bring forth charges of racism, either real or imagined.

He has made a living by keeping fellow African-Americans down, by playing the victim card, he has kept racism alive and well in America and around the world.

In my opinion, it is despicable that someone would talk about a presidential candidate or anyone that way. What happened to respect of the office of the Presidency?

I was always taught to respect the office, no matter what I thought of the president or a candidate for president. Guess I didn’t grow up in the same environment as he did.

If anyone besides Jesse would have made a comment like that, the secret service would have, rightfully so, been all over it, and an investigation launched.

I am far from being a fan of Obama, however, actions such as Jesse Jackson’s are despicable!

Wasn’t it Jesse who called for the firing of Imus?  Didn’t he make a big uproar about it!  What happened to  his sense of righteousness? And what about Jimmy the Greek and the comment he made, or Rush Limbaugh, who was just making an observation about a black athlete?

Now some in the black community are trying to justify it by saying it is O.K. for a black to say the word, but not OK for someone of a different race. I’m sorry but it isn’t acceptable for anyone to utter that word.

I thought the whole idea of equality was to make everything equal, not have separate rules for “privileged people”.

Have we come to a place where we can’t criticize someone if they are a certain race, creed or national origin.

What is that all about, are they above reproach?

The “Yes we can” campaign of Barry Obama, seems to be stalled. Every time a suggestion is made on how we can improve our country, the war in Iraq, or the economy, the first statement made by the left is, “that won’t work.”

The latest in a long line of impossible solutions is the possibility of opening more areas for oil drilling. With the known reserves in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Anwar(which, by the way, it’s sole purpose of being created was for  oil exploration) and all the oil off shore, we have more oil reserves in this country than all the known sources in Saudi Arabia. By developing those reserves , along with alternative energy supplies that would  work, leave the corn alone, (bad Idea), The United States could be entirely self sufficient and not have to depend on terrorists for our energy supply.

With all the new technology available today, there are only two chances of pollution, slim and none. Their favorite mantra is, “well it wouldn’t do any good, it would take ten years for us to receive any oil from a new well.

We, the greatest nation on earth, put a man on the moon in 7 years, created our own nation in eight years, defeated two of the largest and powerful countries  the world has ever known, at the same time, in four years.

How big of an idiot do they think we are, what are they going to dig that oil well with, a pick and shovel?

They keep bringing up the same old story,we need wind power, solar power, etc. That is fine and dandy, however, I seriously doubt that an airplane, locomotive, or big truck will ever be powered by a windmill!

All types of energy sources need to be developed, the world needs them all! It is pig headed and small minded to think otherwise, let’s quit playing politics with our economy and develop a plan, quit taking us back to the future.

Deporting Illegial Immigarnts

As usual politicians only have a one track mind, and can’t seem to think past their nose.
The common rhetoric  to the illegals immigrant problem is,”Well , We can’t deport 12 million illegals”.

Well, we don’t have to!  All we have to do is make it tougher for employers to hire them,(make sure they are legal) increase and enforce the fines.  Force them to pay at least minimum wage.

If there is no incentive for the employers, and a penalty for doing something they shouldn’t be doing in the first place, the practice would stop.

If there is no work, the illegals will go home or make an effort to become legalized. Thus the problem is solved! This isn’t rocket science !

Most politicians are pandering for votes, the way I see it Illegal immigrants shouldn’t be voting anyway. The immigrants that come here legally don’t like the way it is done either, most are law abiding citizens, and feel that everyone should abide by the same laws that they do.

I don’t have a problem with immigration, but they should have to come here legally like everyone else. In today’s world, we need to know who crosses our borders.

Most countries have a lot tougher laws concerning Visas and entering their country than we do.
